Missouri to Expand Medicaid
On August 4, 2020, Missouri voters approved expanding Medicaid coverage in the state through an amendment to the state constitution, making Missouri the 38th to expand. The vote narrowly passed, receiving support from 53% of voters. It provides coverage to adults between the ages of 19 and 65 who earn 138% or less of the federal poverty level. Additionally, it prohibits any additional burdens on eligibility or enrollment standards, such as work requirements or premiums. It is anticipated to provide coverage to an additional 230,000 low-income residents.
The amendment requires Missouri to submit a state plan amendment to the Federal government by March 1, 2021, for expansion to begin July 1, 2021.
