On January 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor’s new overtime rule, finalized in September 2019, is to go into effect. The Rule raised the earnings required to be considered an exempt employee, and therefore unable to earn overtime pay, from $455 to $684 a week. Additionally, the rule addresses that up to 10% of the salary minimum may be made up of bonuses, commissions, or other incentives that are paid out at least annually.
